ISANH (International Society of Antioxidant in Nutrition and Health) are hosting the 2011 Targeting Mitochondria event at the Ritz Carlton, Berlin, Germany on 20th & 21st October 2011.
The conference will draw the attention to many contradictions and provide answers and perspectives of mitochondrial use as a target. The aim is also to highlight its applications and potential strategies in the prevention and treatment of many chronic diseases and pathologies.
Mitochondrial dysfunctions are associated with much pathology such as cancer, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, migraine, infertility, kidney diseases, liver diseases, toxicity of HIV drugs and aging.
Luxcel Biosciences will be present at this conference where you will get a chance to meet us at our booth. The team will be showcasing our oxygen and pH monitoring solutions (MitoXpress® and pH-Xtra) – the ideal screening tools for Mitochondrial and cellular function analysis.
MitoXpress® is a convenient fluorescence-based assay in a micro-titre plate format. This high throughput approach allows direct real time analysis of mitochondrial oxygen consumption. MitoXpress® assays can be used to analyse a wide variety of respiring or oxygen consuming systems including isolated mitochondria and whole cells.
The Luxcel pH-Xtra is a fluorescence-based assay that measures extracellular acidification. The assay detects changes in extracellular pH caused by the acid extrusion of either suspension or adherent cells. This allows convenient plate based analysis of glycolytic flux. It can be used to monitor alterations in glucose metabolism, detecting glycolytic inhibition as well as confirming and offering additional insight into the mechanisms involved in mitochondrial (dys) function.
Prof. Dmitri Papkovsky, Biochemistry Department UCC, will be giving a talk at the conference on
” Analysis of Mitochondrial Function by Means of Cell-Penetrating Phosphorescent Oxygen Sensing Probes”.
The talk will include Luxcel’s new intracellular oxygen sensing techniques that provide powerful, but at the same time simple and convenient tools for mechanistic studies with mitochondrial drugs and targets, various cell models, hypoxia research and other analytical tasks. The presentation will describe the key features and operation principles of these icO2 sensing methodologies, with representative examples and experimental data.
